Climate protection and adaptation
With municipalities increasingly affected by climate change, adaption to the consequences of climate change is, besides climate protection, a municipal task of growing significance. Whereas strategies and approaches to avoid and reduce the emission of climate-damaging gases (e.g. propagation of renewable energies) are central to climate protection, measures to mitigate occurred or inevitable impacts of climate change or avert resulting damages constitute the focus of climate change adaption. Many municipalities are already confronted with the consequences of climate change. Repeated appearance of extreme weather events in the past years resulting in so called flash flooding e.g. cause massive harm to buildings. Besides, persistent hot periods afflict residents and challenge cities, municipalities and administrative districts to take preventive measures and raise the residents’ awareness.
With a view to local circumstances, COOPERATIVE develops measures and concepts for climate protection and adaption. In accordance with integrative planning, both approaches and more importantly their measures are considered jointly in order to detect both conflicts of objectives as well as synergies as early as possible.
